Hosting

Space for your site on a server

Hosting is a service that provides space on a server where your website’s files are stored. For a site to be available on the internet around the clock, it must run on a server that is always on and connected. Hosting therefore ensures that visitors can see your site at any time.

How hosting works

When someone enters your website’s address, their browser connects to the server where the site is stored and downloads the files it needs. The server runs continuously, so the page is available at any time. You rent hosting from a provider much like an office: instead of square meters, you pay for performance, space, and data transfer.

Hosting is closely tied to the domain. The domain is the address a visitor enters; hosting is the place that address points to. For the site to work, the domain and hosting must be correctly connected.

Types of hosting

Hosting solutions differ in performance, price, and degree of privacy. With shared hosting, multiple sites run on one server at once, which is cheap and suitable for smaller sites. More powerful options such as a VPS or a dedicated server give the site its own resources, so it can handle higher traffic and more demanding applications.

Choosing hosting is not just about price. Speed, reliability, server location, and the quality of support all matter. Cheap, slow hosting can spoil even an otherwise excellently built site.

  • Shared hosting: affordable, suitable for smaller sites.
  • VPS: dedicated resources and higher performance for growing projects.
  • Dedicated server: an entire server just for your site.
  • Cloud and managed hosting: flexibility and managed administration.

Why hosting matters

Hosting directly affects a site’s load speed and availability. A slow server worsens the visitor experience and search rankings, because speed is one of the SEO factors. Frequent outages, in turn, mean a customer simply can’t find your site at that moment. Quality hosting is therefore the quiet foundation the whole site stands on.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between hosting and a domain?

A domain is your website’s address that a visitor types into the browser. Hosting is the space on a server where the site’s files are stored and where that address points. For a working site you need both, and they must be correctly connected to each other.

Does hosting affect a site’s speed and SEO?

Yes. A slow or unreliable server lengthens loading times and causes outages, which worsens the visitor experience and search rankings. Load speed is among the factors Google takes into account, so quality hosting is worth it.

Which hosting should I choose?

It depends on the size of the site and the expected traffic. For a smaller presentation, quality shared hosting is enough; for more demanding projects a VPS or cloud solution pays off. When building your site we are happy to help you choose and set up suitable hosting.
