Comparison · Shoptet

Shoptet sells fast. The question is for how long.

A boxed platform is live in a week for a few hundred a month. The price is that the tier grows with your catalogue and a slice of revenue leaves as commission.

We are not against Shoptet. We send some clients to it — below we say exactly when.

What the tier capsper month
Basic100 products€16.50
Business1,000 products€55.00
Profi5,000 products€91.00
Enterprise50,000 products€173.50
A custom shop — the tier does not cap your catalogue

You pay by how much you sell, not by how much work the system does. Growing the catalogue is a step up a tier.

What gets billed

You pay for how much you sell.

The tier does not cap how much work the system does — it caps how many products you may keep in it.

Growing the catalogue is therefore not a commercial decision but a step up a tier. That is fine until the catalogue grows; then it turns.

Commission on marketplace orders
lower tiers4.99 %€12,475
middle tiers3.49 %€8,725
higher tiers2.59 %€6,475

This applies to orders sourced through the marketplace, not to every order. It is still a commission on revenue that grows with you, and one a custom build does not have.

Where it breaks

Not on the design. On the order logic.

Shoptet handles an ordinary purchase and ordinary variants. Trouble arrives at per-customer pricing, at a configurator, or when the shop has to talk to stock and production both ways.

Then there are two options: bend the selling to what the platform does, or buy add-ons and glue the steps between. Both cost more than the invoice shows.

A percentage of revenue is not a fee. It is a share and a share is paid in the years you got nothing new, too.

How to decide

It is not about feature counts, but about whose process it is.

Five things decide it: catalogue size, whether prices are computed, whether two-way integrations are needed, what the order flow should look like, and whether speed is a business requirement.

If none of them matter to you, Shoptet is the cheaper and faster choice, and we will tell you so.

When Shoptet is enough
  • A standard catalogue of a few thousand items.
  • You want to be selling within a month and have no IT team.
  • Their templates and marketplace add-ons suit you.
  • You need no link to production and no pricing logic of your own.
When custom pays off
  • The catalogue or its variants outgrow the tier.
  • Prices are computed per customer, quantity or configuration.
  • The shop has to talk to stock, production and accounting both ways.
  • You want your own order flow, not the template's.
  • Speed and accessibility are business requirements.

If you recognised yourself on the left, say so on the call. Recommending Shoptet is cheaper advice than building something that exists.

What we build

A shop with no tier ceiling.

01

A catalogue with no tier limit

How many products and variants you keep is your server's business, not a price list's.

02

Prices on your own logic

Per-customer pricing, quantity bands, a configurator — how you actually sell.

03

Two-way integrations

Stock, production, accounting and shipping over an API, not a nightly CSV import.

04

The order flow you want

A basket and checkout built for your selling, not the average of every shop.

Common questions

Is Shoptet a bad platform?

No. In the Czech and Slovak markets it is an established product with good support, and for a great many shops it is the sensible choice. This page does not compare quality — it compares models. A boxed product means a fast start and limits set by a tier; a custom build is the opposite trade.

When does custom development pay for itself?

It depends on revenue, catalogue size and how much work happens outside the shop today. For a small standard catalogue it does not, and we will recommend the boxed product. For growing revenue, where the commission and the higher tier climb together and part of the process runs by hand anyway, it turns sooner than expected.

Can Shoptet not be extended with add-ons?

It can, and for many cases that is enough. The limit is where the order flow itself or the data model would have to change. Add-ons also stack onto the monthly cost, and each is another vendor to keep current.

What about migrating if we already run on Shoptet?

Routine. Products, orders and customers all move across; the harder part is deciding what to bring. The critical piece is keeping product URLs or setting redirects — otherwise the migration costs you Google rankings.

How long does a custom shop take?

We put a sellable first version live in months, not weeks, and deliberately before everything is finished. Anyone promising a finished custom shop in a fortnight is selling a template.
