Product feed

A data file of your products

A product feed is a structured data file that describes your store’s products for external systems. It contains titles, prices, availability, images, and other data, and serves as the input for advertising platforms and price comparison sites. Its quality directly affects how your products are shown and how well they sell.

What a product feed is for

A product feed is the bridge between your store and the platforms that need product data. A custom e-shop generates it most reliably, so Google Shopping or a price comparison site can show the current title, price, and availability without each system reading your website manually. The feed updates automatically, so prices and stock stay in sync across your ads.

In practice the feed is the foundation of product advertising campaigns. Without a quality feed, an advertising platform can’t correctly match your products to what customers search for, and the campaign performs worse.

What a product feed contains

A feed has a precisely defined structure, and a set of fields describes each product in it. Some are required, others optional, but the optional ones often decide how well a product is shown.

  • The product identifier, title, and description.
  • Price, currency, and current stock availability.
  • The link to the product and the link to its image.
  • Additional attributes: brand, category, parameters, variants.

Why feed quality matters

An advertising platform works only with what the feed gives it. If data is missing, outdated, or misclassified, products show up less often, to the wrong people, or not at all. Accurate titles, correct categories, and filled-in attributes therefore directly raise campaign performance and lower the cost of acquiring an order.

Feed optimization is a discipline of its own. Small tweaks to titles, filling in missing attributes, and cleaning up errors can noticeably improve visibility and sales, especially for product ads and price comparison sites.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to create the product feed manually?

No. A quality store can generate the feed automatically and keep it updated. Manual edits are only for fine-tuning or fixes. What matters is that the feed always matches your real prices and availability.

What is a product feed used for?

Most often for product ads in Google Shopping and on social networks, and for price comparison sites. The same feed can serve several platforms at once, but each has its own requirements for format and attributes.

Why aren’t some of my products showing in ads?

The most common cause is errors in the feed: missing required data, the wrong category, or a price mismatch between the feed and the site. Platforms reject such products, so it pays to check and clean the feed regularly.
