Paintball, Dinner, and Four New Colleagues: What Team Building Looks Like at BeCode

We work remotely and from the office. Sometimes calls are not enough—paintball in Bratislava, dinner at U Zlatého bažanta, and four new teammates: Dominika, Samo, Viki, and Tomáš.

Paintball, Dinner, and Four New Colleagues: What Team Building Looks Like at BeCode

At BeCode, we work remotely and from the office. That setup works perfectly for us. But sometimes calls and Slack messages are simply not enough. You need to meet in person, look a colleague in the eye—and ideally tag them with a paintball.

The team is growing

Early this year, four new colleagues joined us: Dominika, Samo, Viki, and Tomáš. We expanded our ranks with two skilled assistants and two full-stack developers. Each brings something different, but they have one thing in common: they fit in immediately. Since part of the team works remotely, it was about time we all met face to face.

The journey (and the cakes)

Getting a team together from different cities is an adventure. Mišo traveled all the way from Brno, while Tomáš heroically survived 4 train/bus transfers to get there. Samo provided a special treat—traveling from Poprad, he brought us fantastic cakes. These are exactly the moments that make our team special.

Battle first: Office vs. Remote

The plan was simple. First, paintball. We quickly saw who thinks strategically and who prefers hiding behind cover. We constantly changed teams, but the absolute highlight was playing "Office vs. Remote".

Diana, who handles marketing for our clients, joined us too, making sure we had enough people for a proper shootout. The MVP of the day went undisputedly to Maťo. Meanwhile, Jerguš discovered his passion for "friendly fire" and occasionally shot his own teammates. It was a tough match, but we all left smiling (and with a few bruises).

From the battlefield to a great dinner

After a good dose of adrenaline, we moved for dinner to U Zlatého bažanta in Bratislava. Delicious traditional sirloin (sviečková), juicy burgers, and great beer—the perfect reward after a sports performance.

And it was exactly there, over good food, that it became clear why these meetups matter. Remote collaboration is great for projects and deadlines, but it cannot replace an ordinary conversation at the table. No agenda, no tasks. Just people from one team finally talking without a shared screen, discussing everything but code.

What is next?

It was a really nice evening. Exactly what we needed. We definitely want to meet up again soon, and it looks like next time we will swap paintballs for bowling balls.

BeCode is growing, and our projects grow with the team. If you are curious how we work or want to join us, visit our Careers page or get in touch.
